i experience the making of art as a language where visual narratives are used to tell a story, capture a feeling or an idea. Sometimes I’m the storyteller, but not always. I also act as a visual translator, interpreting the stories of others.

My background as a graphic designer influences my art through the integration of typography, photography and composition. I primarily work in the medium of acrylic and collage in combination. What I love about collage is the sense of history within the materials. That the papers have traveled and changed hands, interpreted into new stories.

As an Iranian-American artist I'm most inspired by my connection to nature, and creating imagery of strong female archetypes and athletes. Championing women is a priority in my work because I’ve been inspired by strong women throughout my life and interested in their stories. I want to be part of amplifying their voices.

I am self-represented and take on commissions on behalf of my patrons. I also work with interior designers, architects and their clients to create custom personalized art for families and their homes. Pieces that are an extension and expression of the story of their lives. If you'd like to get in touch, please email me at laila@lailarezai.com. I look forward to connecting with you.

A Note about my Book Page Collages

Scale is a significant detail related to art making. Because my book page collages can not be produced as originals at larger sizes, prints of them can. By scanning originals I can offer them as much larger archival prints. If that is of interest, please email me so I can provide you with a quote for the finished piece at the desired scale.
